Advanced Life Support for Interns (ALSi)

Course Overview

ALSi is a compulsory course for interns during their hospital orientation.

Run by the Queensland Health Centre for Healthcare Improvement, this course focuses on managing a deteriorating patient and attempting to pre-empt the need for advanced life support.

This half-day course covers the principles of current resuscitation guidelines and skills required in basic life support and advanced life support.

Competencies

Participants refresh their understanding of:

  • basic life support
  • advanced airway management
  • defibrillation
  • roles of members of the advanced life support team.

Outcomes

  • Participants emerge with the ability to identify and manage the deteriorating patient.
  • Participants are able to function as members of an advanced life support team.
